This lonely species is the only member of its genus. It lives in the Pacific, but this time much further south than most other members of Lithodidae: South America. In particular it lives on the coasts of Chile and Peru, earning it the title "Peruvian centolla". Despite living so far south, the other genera most closely related to it all live in the north, meaning that Glyptolithodes cristatipes has migrated south from its original home, leaving its siblings behind.
Truly it's a lonely species.
